Is it ok to breed same breed chickens from the same hatchery batch?

I would say it should be fine. People commonly breed mother to son, daughter to father, etc. in many breeding systems.

Thanks Davidkerk, do you know if all the chicks sent are from the same parents? I guess this is more of a question for the hatchery. thanks and God bless.

Hello :frow Welcome To BYC and Happy Holidays! You might want to check out or post in some of the threads in the Breeds, Genetics and Showing forum for the breeds you are interested in about what long term breeders do so far as line and in breeding goes. With commercial hatchery birds, there is really no way to know how related they are.

Welcome to BYC. Hatcheries raise so many chicks that the chances of chicks purchased being related is negligible.

I agree with Sour, unless the hen & roo you plan to breed both have same glaring fault - like crossbeaks or bad feet
