My chicks are about 12 weeks old, now. I've been letting them freerange, I just have to keep an eye on them. I've noticed that they tend to eat everything... from bugs and grass to jewlweed. I even saw one jump for a leaf on a holly bush (she didn't eat it).

Something that's been bothering me... Is jewelweed poisonous? They're still young, do they know what to eat and what not to eat?

If given the option of free-roaming and a wide variety of plants, the chickens won't over-indulge on "bad" plants. I've not heard that jewelweed is bad. Vetch can be, but only in large quantities. (I had a hen get sick from it, but that's a rare occurrence, and my flock still has access to it.) What is lethal is avocado! Otherwise, no need to worry - not even about potatoes and eggplant. I have a FAQ on what to feed your chickens here: (my opinionated take) here:
