    Hi.

I have noticed a bunch of feathers around my coop the last day, and I can't tell if it is just my chicken molting, or something else? I believe my hen is around 2 years old, I adopted it and I think that is what they said. It has been very hot and humid in Ohio for the last few weeks, would that be part of it? My egg production has decreased as well, I am assuming it is b/c of the heat, but I don't know. I am new to having hens... any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

It's the time of year for them to start to molt. The main trigger for them to start, is the shortening of day light. If there is no other stress factor like a predator visiting or lack of food or water. I would guess that she is starting a normal annual molt. When they molt a drop in egg production is to be expected.
