Mine hasn’t started mating yet but he will fertilize the eggs. But if you grab the eggs and refrigerate daily they won’t grow and you won’t notice a difference in taste to be honest. I know this from my aunts farm she always had a rooster with her hens.

I’ve only been at this for a year, not quite that experienced, If I leave him with the girls and he mates them , won’t I risk my eggs being fertile, I don’t have space for more than the 8 I have now, I don’t want more and I don’t wanna lose egg production, so don’t I have to separate him? Like I said I’m new to this especially having a rooster lol

What do you mean ‘you won’t risk them being fertile’?
There won’t be chicks at all unless you incubate them.

Fertile eggs are just as good to eat as infertile eggs. Just collect the eggs every day and put them in the fridge. They won’t grow chicks unless you incubate them.

Chicks only happen with two things. Fertilization and incubation. If you have a rooster, the eggs will be fertilized. They won't taste different or anything. To keep from incubation, just collect daily.

Roosters are amazing and are wonderful with your hens.

If you are collecting the eggs every day, you won't accidentally get more chicks even if he is randy as a pornstar. It takes 21 days for a hen to sit on constantly and hatch chicks from a fertile egg.

You don't need to worry. It's not like humans risking pregnancy by having lots of unprotected sex
