This is Rasputin (yes, that really is her name), my 16-week-old EE pullet. Over the past week or so her comb has really sprouted and taken a reddish coloring that none of the other pullers have. I don’t think she is a rooster as she has never once tried to crow and her feathers are all rounded. Is she POL? I’m a little confused as I was anticipating them laying at 20 weeks, not 16. Apologies for my shadow in one of the photos.

The days began to get too short just as my gals reached POL. So I gave them 2 extra hours of morning light. That’s when I had found just one egg. I was afraid if they had just started, then stopped, it might be hard in their systems. (Or hard on me, waiting all these months!)

But I read that if they start before the days are too short, they will lay through their first winter. So we are going to wean from the morning light. Maybe they will let me sleep in!

I have 2 pullets who are 18 weeks. I'm not holding out any hope for eggs thru the winter.
