So I am a bit of a newer chicken owner, this is my RI reds' first winter with me.

They are all young and seemingly healthy chickens. However, within the last 2 weeks we have had some interesting weather here. One day it was 50, the next -5 then snow, freeze snow freeze and we are not back around 35.

I am already working on managing my Rooster Larry 's frostbite (giant comb, unfortunately).

But I noticed in the past week one of my girls is starting to get basically mud butt? I don't have a better description .....
Basically she has what looks like white poo stuck around her vent feathers. Not sure if its vent gleet?

Has anyone ever seen/dealt with this???

    (I will attach photos momentarily)

Do you have a heat lamp in the coop?

    Just cut the feathers off.

I do not have a heat lamp in the coop.

Will cutting her rump feathers off cause issues with heat regulation?

As I stated earlier I live in an area where temperature changes can be quite drastic.

Nope.Heat lamps seem to dry there cloaca and make it hard to poop.Changes in temp is probably what caused it.
