We bought some cute chicks from our local feed barn. The sales clerk said they did not have any sex link chickens. Looking over several photos in the site here though it looks like I might have a male black star, can anyone tell if that's the case? The bird is just over one week old as far as I know, thanks.

So do you think it's a barred Rock hen?

The guy in the front (white head, facing left) is a BSL male close to 2 weeks old:

These are them at almost 4 weeks old - much whiter looking:

    Hope that helps!

Well it's identical to mine and they are supposed to be pullets and they're 2 weeks old now. So I would assume BR hen.

Hi The image Tala posted looks pretty similar, is there any way whitehartrabitry you could post an image of your BR for reference?

Quote:Sounds like I have a black sex link rooster on my hands then, if that's the case. There certainly isn't any brown in the face. I still have hope it could be the barred rock. Any idea if there are any other breeds that look as similar when they're young like that?
