I purchased this chicken today. The man who sold it to me said it is a female but I'm not sure. It is the hen nearest the camera with the gray plumage[IMG]

I will take more pictures in the morning

    Thanks!

If I'm looking at the right bird, it's definitely a cockerel. Those red wings tell me that. :) I'm sorry that he was sold to you as a pullet, hopefully it was just an honest mistake and not just a scheme to get rid of the bird. :(

That is not a hen. I'm sorry to say. That coloring is classic for a EE roo. Especially the red on the shoulders. Also, I can clearly see the pointed saddle feathers in this picture. I would take it back of you don't need another rooster.

Well, he's a pretty bird, so I'm sure you'll find him a good home easily. :)

Red over wings, curved tail feathers (They don't call them "rooster tails" for nothing.) = boy. If you want an EE, pullet, yes, they do come in many colors, I have them, but if you aren't sure, you're probably safest picking a "plain Jane" color, brown or buff. If you see any whose combs are redder, stay away from them. They're a boy, too.
I often wonder if these people selling cockerels as pullets really don't know the difference or they just want to get rid of their extra cockerels.
