Hello! I have a 4 month old (or thereabouts) black sexlink and my kids noticed these injuries (?) on either side of her face. Are these her ears? Is it in infection? Is there something I can do for it or do I just leave it alone to heal on it's own? We have two other chickens (Rhode Island Red and Buff Orpington) who are not pecking her or anything.

I'm not sure why BYC isn't letting me post any photos on here but the pics of the chicken are here:

1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) Black Sexlink 4 months old. average height/weight.
2) What is the behavior, exactly. Behavior is normal.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? Just noticed the sores yesterday.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? No
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. Seems like some crusting/scabbing.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. Not sure.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. Laying pellets, water, and then whatever they find as they roam the backyard.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. normal.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? nothing.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? I would like to treat her myself.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use Free roam a grassy backyard during the day, locked in a small coop at night.
