I have an 8x16 coop. 4 windows (19"x27") and didn't cover the soffits. I will use hardware cloth up there.
Central Oregon weather. High Desert. Dry. It gets pretty cold during winter. And we get snow (60+" this year... normally between 25-30"). Most nights are cold (not rare to get frost in June). 30-40 degree change from day-night is not uncommon. During summer we get a few weeks where it gets to 100+, but at night it drops 20-30 degrees.
Chickens will be in their 50'x50' run all day and sleep in the coop. I'll probably have around 40 chickens.
