Is this molting??

I have a 13 month old Brahma and I’m unsure if she’s molting. She lost some of the downy looking feathers and I can see new beginngs of feathers coming in.
Im concerned because it looks like she has lost feathers around her eyes and they appear to be red or swollen.

I included a before photo and current photo. Any advice thanks?

btw she was just broody and hatched 5 chicks 20 days ago

Even around the eyes does that look normal?

Are you down under in Australia or New Zealand? If so, your hen is starting a fall molt and that involves every single feather on her body, from the teensy feathers around the eyes to feathers on the feet if she's of a feather-footed breed.

If this is a late juvenile molt, it also can involve the facial feathers. Get a magnifying lens and look very carefully at the base of the feathers around her eyes. Chances are very good you will be able to see very, very fine pin feathers coming in that aren't easily visible to the naked eye.

I am in for US in Maryland here it just turned spring for us. But she was broody and did just hatch 5 chicks. I can see what appears to be little hard feathers coming in.

Eyes look normal to me. Many/most hens will go into a molt after setting and hatching a brood of chicks.
