I called feed stores looking for grower feed. The first store said they didn't have that and they had starter and layer. The next place said they had it and I said, "Oh good, the other stores I called only had starter or layer." She said, "This is starter. It's called 'start and grow' and it's for the first 5 months."

So I called the rancher I'm getting the pullets from and he said they need grower. So is 'start and grow' grower? I can't seem to find something specifically called grower. He said they will be ready for layer crumble in a month.

Start and grow is a southern states brand feed that is good for egg laying chickens from hatch up until about 2 weeks before they should start to lay eggs. So you are good with feeding it then switch over to layer feed a few weeks before you are expecting eggs.

You might see grower in a food for meat birds. Some are designed to be feed from day one to first egg.
