Sorry for the long post with all the pictures but after two weeks of solid work the coop is finially done. I would like to thank those that answered my many questions and those that answered everyone elses questions I mooched ideas from. I was amazed how much work it actually was, especially since I had to build it with only the occasional help from a 5yo and a 7yo who might be wandering by. I think if I was to offer any advice to anyone about to build a coop it would be this--get prices on everything you are going to need because it amazed me how much little stuff like hinges, washers, screws and caulk can run up the price. I ended up over $100 over budget but I am pretty happy with the finished product so here it is.

Front of the coop with some chickens who are happy to be out of their tupperware container

Nice Job I really like it! Budget what budget?! I totally blew my coop project out of proportion. what are the dimensions on that coop? I like the doors that open in the back for cleaning.

To make a good predator-proof coop is a lot of work, and yes, more expensive that anticipated. But yours looks like it will be enjoyed for many years. Happy chickens, happy children and aren't you glad you're finished with your coop? Best of luck!

That is absolutely priceless, your daughters and dog have this spot in their entire heart, and its saying: All's perfect in our world!

I wonder if one pice of wood across the top in front, where the air vent is would keep rain and snow out? I used to live in Englewood, Leadville and Twin Lakes, so Thank you so much for sharing and Caring:)
