Hi, I picked up three, one-week-old Pekin ducklings today. We have a large coop and one four-year-old Rhode Island Red, who is very mellow. I cleaned the coop, which is 12 X 10, and put the ducklings in a new baby pool with a heat lamp and the same fresh pine shavings as I put down in the coop. I have to admit, they did get wet while they waited fir me to prepare for them because they spilled their temporary water pan along with pooping in it. They seemed quite comfortable when I left them around 5 PM, but when I went to check on them at 8, they were all itchy, pecking and scratching and rubbing non-stop. Red was perched for the night. Are they okay?

Greeting from Kansas, nugget737, and [IMG]! Great to have you aboard! Not sure what's up with your ducks but you might post in the Ducks Forum in the link below and ask - the folks there are very knowledgeable:

I think the Duck thread would be the best place for your questions. I don't think they'd be allergic to pine shavings but [IMG] I don't know much about ducks. What are you feeding them?

G’Day from down under nugget737 [IMG] Welcome!

Sorry, I have no experience with ducks, just chickens. However, I do hope that the folks on the Duck Forum were able to assist.

I also hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: ‘Find your State’s thread.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out [IMG]
