And man, that name fits him perfectly. He is one fiesty boy. I don't ever think I will be able to be a mother. I am upset because my sweet little chick chick is turning out to be an adolescent boy. He runs from me anytime I come within 5 feet of him. The only time he lets me pet him is when he is ready to get in bed. He is about 3 months now, and is cock-a-dooing (he has not gotten the whole thing down yet) and discovering his sex drive. Is this normal at this age? His girl Coccolina just died a couple of days ago, and now he is trying to mate with the 6 week old chicks [IMG]
They don't know what the heck is going on. We have break it up by chasing him away (poor guy [IMG] ). At first I thought that he was attacking them. I can't wait to hear what the neighbors think about the sounds of chicken sex in our backyard

    Oh, that's too funny!

Can you keep him in a separate pen? Can you get him another girlfriend?

Quote:Well, one of the chicks is a Jesey Giant. She is slightly older than the rest of them. So I am guessing that she is going to be his next girl. She growing, but my only worry is that he could hurt her if she is to young. Even if she is a big bird, is it safe for him to mate with her, being so much younger? They all sleep together at night in a big pile. Half the time during the day he likes to chase them away from his food or just for the heck of it [IMG] Then every once in a while he will try to mate. He doesn't know what he wants. He is mourning the loss of his girl, I think he is just frustrated in every way.

Poor thing. I'm sure he will snap out of it eventually. I don't anything about chickens though.
