I have a pullet that is "coming of age". She's been running a few of the others out of the garden. Why?

I have a perfectly good nest box set up with a golf ball. She's not planning on using the garden, is she? Her comb and waddles aren't bright red yet. Maybe she's just being nasty?

How do I make it not such a good place? It's just a small 6x12 garden.

Sounds like you have some re-arranging of the pecking order going on and your wanna be boss pullet is maturing and is explaining to some others their position on the list. If she is being a real problem about it, you can try separating her for a day or two to drop her down a notch or two. Unless one is being a real pita I usually just let them work it out since there is going to have to be an established pecking order with somebody on top. Doubt if it has anything to do with using the nesting boxes, just that the garden is the place to be right now, and she wants to control it.
