Yesterday I was outside doing the wiring for my new fishfinder on our boat. I heard some bird chatter that I thought was coming from waterfoul on the lake behind our house. After hearing it for a few minutes, I asked my girlfriend, "Is that coming from our girls? Check them out and see what the ruckus is about."

She yelled from the backyard "Helen just laid our first egg!" I've had people tell me that the first ones are "the size of peas" and get bigger as they lay more. Helen's first effort was about 2/3 the length and about 1/2 the volume of a large egg I compared it to in the refrigerator. I guess she's ahead of the game.

Now I can finally answer "Yes" to the people who keep asking us, "Got any eggs yet?"

I need to look up the date again when we got them as day-old chicks to see how many weeks it took for the laying to start. I'm guessing it was around 22 weeks.

I'd post a pic, but the egg was part of breakfast this morning. MMMM good!
