I'm having a thought...and I wanna think about. Dangerous I know, but we'll see where this goes. Could some kind soul please tell me what the standards are for these two breeds? Maybe I'm looking in all the wrong places online but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I'm randomly finding facts but there is no consistency...grrrr I just want basic information. Weights, skin color, shank color, feet color, etc. I know they are both straight combed. Javas are currently available in Black, Mottled, and White. Jersey Giants are currently available in Black, Blue, Splash, and White. Anything you think is worth knowing will be much appreciated.

I wish I could find my Standard of Perfection. What is the going price for one these days and where can you get them?

You can get them from the APA's website at:

The b&w version is $14 and the color version is $59. I have looked for a used copy and you can't really find them much cheaper.
The White Javas were removed from the standard many years ago and it is my understanding that they may be extinct. I have found a few hatcheries selling Mottled Javas but nobody seems to have the Black. Do you know a source? Please post if you do.

I believe Duane Urch in Minnesota sells Black Java chicks. Sandhill Preservation Center may have them as well.

Is the 2001 version the most recent. I think that is the one I had that I can't find.

I have these websites as far as Javas are concerned:

http://highgroundfarm.blogspot.com/2007/10/white-java-chickens-and-black-javas.html

http://www.backyardpoultrymag.com/issues/2/2-4/Michael_Dougherty.html

http://www.dawnlandfarm.com/javachickens.html

And after an e-mail to Barry Koffer asking why his Java page wasn't loading the way it used to this link to Feathersite:

http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGD/Java/BRKJava.html

Wanted to add that he was very prompt in his reply and fixed it within hours of sending. Originally only the first pic and paragraph were loading. Now you can see everything, including the names of the people who supplied the pictures. I also know that Garfield Farm Museum has a large flock and they have supplied people with their birds, but I have no idea how to go about getting some from them though.

I plan on ordering a Standard but does anyone have one handy they could give me that info out of?

The wikipedia link is acting silly. Just copy and paste it into the browser. There is an _ between java and (chicken). Not sure why it didn't take the whole thing as the address.

Also have a question about the Mottled Gene. If you cross a mottled bird to a black bird what do you get? This is all connected I promise. And when I have all my answers I will unveil the master plan...lol

Thinking about it. And I've found reference to a Blue Java. But the only place I can find anything on it is Garfield Farms. And they are hoping to bring those back too from chicks that hatch with a blue/grey fuzz and later turn white. That seems like a fairly easy thing to work on as well. All you would have to do is cross some of Maria Hall's Blue Jersey Giants onto some Black Javas to introduce the gene and go from there. That was my original idea, the Mottled Jersey Giant was just an after thought. I just can't seem to find the information I'm looking for online.
