Has anyone noticed a difference in egg production between jumbo/meat class/XL coturnix and standard coturnix? I want birds that dress out to a nice size when I butcher the males and extra females, but also want the great egg production. I had jumbos before and got an egg a day, but don't know what farm or lineage they were from. Now I have standards that lay an egg a day, but I dont find them worth butchering. I still do it, but it's a pain for so little meat.

I just ordered hatching eggs that are from the James Marie XL Meat Class and A&M XL Meat Class. Being so selected for big size, should they still lay well?

    Thanks if anyone knows!

They will lay quite well. Getting stock from JMF was a great choice as they are among the highest quality birds you will find. The only real difference between production in coturnix is egg size, every color phase of cots will lay daily.

I thought most all coturnix would lay daily. My friend who is buying some chicks from me was concerned so I thought I'd ask.
