Update:
We lost two of the three chicks. The surviving one is getting pretty big. She is probably a little bigger than 1/4 the size of the adult RIR laying hens we have. Anyway, we took her into the yard today for the first time and of course the hens tried to peck at her. We were protecting her from them fine. I got to far away and a full attack occurred, as I ran over and kicked at the adult hen that was basically killing her I accidentally kicked the young chick also which broke her right leg. It is just dangling and is for sure broken. I feel terrible about this as I was truly trying to protect her and believe the adult hens would have killed her in about 10-20 seconds as it was a brutal attack. Is there anything we can do besides let her hopefully heal on her own? She might even have internal injuries but I can't tell. She has already been hopping on her good leg but is obviously stressed!
