Just got brown egg from white eared pullet!!!

Just got brown egg from white eared pullet. It is true, how can that be. I am freezing, I stood out there while she set a spell. I checked on her a few times and no egg. There was a lot of clucking and then she came out.

All the other pullets were outside with me. I went in to check and there it was a nice little extremely warm brown egg. She even came in to check me out and look at her nest.

The only thing I can think of is that she is a mix but those ears are pure white.

Any comments. I have been watching her for some time and suspected this. I am not mistaken.

It all comes into focus now...................................

I have a small black pullet with white ears. I don't know her breed but she just started laying the prettiest torpedo shaped light tan eggs.

So there are no real hard and fast rules.

I got an inkling because she was always there at egg fetching time, especially when the eggs are warm.

It does answer allot of questions. So why aren't my RIR's laying they are supposed to be winter hardy.


It gets curiouser and curiouser don't it?

A lot of breed are probably going to start laying when it warms up. Have patience and you will be rewarded grasshopper.

I am patient. I'm just so excited to see my Tina has layed an egg. She is the one you look at and think of as your little girl.
