I just got a friendly visit from my local FD! I was burning stumps in my backyard and apparently that is NOT ALLOWED. However if I had a Marshmallow or Hot Dog over the fire everything would be OK. I am so fed up with stupid City Codes.

Yeah I know what you mean. Some things just don't make a whole bunch of sense. If I were you I would just call up friends and as they get to your house hand them a skewered hot dog and say , " Please stand over there!"

Just keep some marshmallows with you then and be ready. Or invite them for a hotdog roast and see if they will join you. Then you could get them to do the work for you!

Well, you're not alone

It was the first year in our new farm. Halloween night we decided to have a fire with some marshmellows and a beer - innocent enough right? Well, the "neighbor" with extended nose disease, on the next road down, who can see our farm from his house, decided to call in a "raging barn fire"!! This was at 11:00 at night! The guy hated us from the minute we moved in, so this was just his way of trying to get us in trouble with others from the community. Well, apparently this was a 3 alarm fire call! Luckily the one fire department is only about 1 mile from our house... They got there fast enough that they could call of the other 2 fire companies. They put out our camp fire, which meant emptying the truck on it, which was in our horse pasture. The next day we had to regrade the pasture because they made ruts from all the water!! Yes well... Such is life!

Lesson: Any fire after dark in our county is absolutely not allowed!!

Oh yeah, the whole nosy neighbor thing would be a thread all it's own

Did this happen in NC or GA?

Please, some of us want to know!

So glad I don't live in a city any more....

we don't burn on windy days or when theres a burn ban and we don't have problems.

My husband is on our local VFD. They don't go looking for illegal burns. It is the neighbors that call them in. We are in the country though so as long as you are burning in a burn barrel it is ok. Otherwise a call into the cheif for a quick ok is all you need. It is really just as a bother for them to have to go out for something little like that.

Just WOW....
i can burn when i want,as for firworks we are still free to shoot them off also...
At least one good thing this county is still normal....
