Well, we just had a scare and it was my fault.

I let the hens out to range this morning.

My son's friend has a Presa Canario dog who is visiting.
The dog is unusually gentle for its breed, but it hates squirrels.
We were teasing the dog a bit, getting it excited about squirrels and I said, "Let him outside!" thinking maybe he'd chase off the squirrels that are tormenting my hens.

A few minutes later, the neighbor came over and said "some dog has one of your chickens in his mouth!"

We ran out back and the dog's owner ordered him to drop the bird.
The bird laid there and looked dead.
I was so upset because I thought Kallie, my favorite hen, was dead.

But she laid there a minute then jumped up and ran off.
I caught her and checked her over and thank God, she appears to be ok.
I gave her a handful of corn and put her in the coop.
The other hens were hiding under the house.
I got them out with corn, and locked them all up.

Kallie appears to be ok, shaken but ok.
No puncture wounds that I could find.
A few missing feathers.

I hope she will survive.
I really love her.

I feel so stupid.
This was MY fault and you can be sure, I won't be so absent minded again.

dont feel bad, we all make mistakes ! lot of people have done that very thing. my dog too. I trusted her, I was wrong. like you, she survived. if she is acting shaken a little extra heat ,(i dont know where your at) helps with shock. and quiet too. I trained mine to help herd them in at night. she liked helping, we had it down pat until one of my hers decided to take off around the house. it wouldnt come running back so she decided to "carry it" home.
