I think he was checking out the camera to make sure it wasn't a treat of some kind.

That's so cool that Princess Puddles ( hahaha too cute!) gets to go show off Nettie's awesome duck shoes at the store.

We're learning to tell the pekins apart little by little. My youngest daughter named them all after white flowers. We have Dogwood ( the drake) Daisy(she's the biggest), Lily( she will eat out of my hand when the others wont yet), Dahlia, Magnolia ( she has the loudest mouth) and Petunia. ( she's a tad smaller than the other 5)

They do seem happy don't they? They're spoiled rotten for sure. Even though they have a perfectly good creek right down the hill they seem to like hogging the baby pools from the other ducks. And of course when the other ducks see them in the pools they have to run up and try to push them out and take over. But they stand their ground.... they don't really care who bathes with them, but they aren't getting out.

I had to go buy another big pool today (we needed one anyway) so the muscovy could have one. They're too stuck up the hang out or bathe with the rest of the ducks and the pekins aren't budging.

They really have been an enjoyable addition to our flock. Everyone loves them. And like duck walk said... noting eases the heart ( or can make me smile) like a flock of ducks.

I LOVE the names! Sooo pretty.. And Dogwood is a great flower name for a boy! Hahaha, these ones are spoiled.. We have different kinds of spoiled, though. My 5 refuse to bathe in the "lowly" kiddie pool and get very upset when I don't let them out to free range and get in their stream, which they dug out into a minipond. I'm so glad you love them as much as I do! They're lovely ducks, despite their hardship.

Cute pics! I love it when they all turn their heads to look at the something in the sky, they're so good at that! How long did it take your Muscovies to get all fleshy on their faces? Mine are 4 months old and still have very little fleshy stuff, just curious

Haha! They were looking at the turkey buzzards that were flying wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy up in the sky. They were so high up I could barely see them. but the ducks knew they were there. It's the REASON I ran to get the camera in the first place.

I'm trying to think how old Gerry was when he started to get his caruncling and I just can't remember exactly... I want to say it was like 14 to 16 weeks. He's a year old now.

My youngest daughter (of 4) came up with the names. She's almost 13 and the one who does most of the helping me with the ducks. She's kind of claimed the Pekins as hers. I thought Dogwood was clever too.

Ya know, I thought they'd prefer the creek too. It's not that wide, maybe 7 feet, and about 21/2 feet deep and nice and shaded. They spend time there of course... but are always the first ones up the hill so they can claim the kiddie pools. And it always seems to be right about the time I'm freshening the water in the afternoon, so by the time the other ducks meander on up all 3 pools are nice are used with at least 1 duck in each one.

They are definitely lovely ducks. Although...one of them ate a frog in front of me this evening. I could have lived my whole life without seeing that!

I see you have Guinea Keets!!! I want some. I hear they are a great natural way to control ticks. Living on a Christmas tree farm we sure have our share of ticks. Do you know how guineas would get along with ducks?

Well, NO, I do not know. However, I bet if you go to the index under Guinea Fowl and post your question to the forum you will get your answer.

I personally can not imagine that it would be a problem. Guinea Fowl are pretty interested in one thing. Free Range with their buds to find bugs and other tastey morsals.

Now, Guineas would require an enclosure with high roosts. I do know a hay guy that has both Guineas and Geese. I watched them come in for the roost and they flew into a tall tree next to his house that has a "security" light.

Hope this helps.
