we got 9 little chicks yesterday: 2 barred rocks, 1 buff orp, 1 black cochin (standard), 1 Colombian Wyandotte, 1 silver laced Wyandotte, 1 bantam blue Wyandotte, a blue silkie and a partridge silkie...they are just the cutest things ever. hoping we don't get any roosters but I have a feeling the partridge silkie and the bantam Wyandotte are roos...not sure why tho, just something in the way they stand I think makes them look different from the rest.

Aww!! Adorable little things, and congrats on your first flock! Also, if you want us to help sex your chicks, since they are a day old, just reply photos of their wing spread, and we should be able to determine sex that way. Pullets have 2 rows of feathers, but roo's do not. You can only sex chicks this way when their 1-3 days old. [IMG]

Very cute! I'm still a newbie to the whole chicken bizz, but from what I've gathered after tons of reading is that in order to wing sex, you need to have a cross of a slow feathering male and a fast feathering female for this method of sexing to be accurate. Best bet is to just wait it out for about 4-6 weeks, a little longer for the silkies as they are even harder to sex.

well the waiting is killing me! I am not allowed to have roosters so I really hope I'm wrong because the ones I think probably are roos happen to be my favorite. I do have pics of the wings and if you were to wing sex them, they are looking like roos but we shall see...
