Keeping Chickens Entertained

Add clutter to your run: a ladder, pallet mini walls, roosts out there in a corner, a box, a platform. This makes better use of the the third dimension, the vertical dimension, your birds can get away from each other, they get better exercise flying up and down.

A hay pile is another way to make it more interesting, sprinkled with scratch.

Every morning I put out whatever fruit/veggie/bread scraps we accumulated the afternoon before, and they spend the morning eating that. And then, I buy a couple bales of hay and toss about a quarter of a bale in every couple days. It's fascinating to watch them scratch and dig down to the dirt and roll around like a cat.

My chickens have already destroyed their grass area so now they just stand in the mud, and since it's winter there's not too many bugs to peck around at. Any ideas on how you keep your flock entertained and happy? I saw a cabbage piñata on Pintrest.. hehe
First, you need to get some bedding in there to alleviate the mud.
Wood chippings are best IMO.
