Is it possible/smart to keep different sizes and types of ducks together? For instance, I have a few Pekins. Would it be dangerous to keep call ducks in the same enclosure? What about the more exotic ducks like mandarins, etc? Do each type need to be housed seperately or can they be happily kept together?

I don't know about the small call ducks, but I have 4 mallards, 1 pekin, 1 runner, and 2 muskovies all together - no problems so far!

I think it depends on your Pekin and their individual aggressivness or not. I do have 2 calls in w/one Blk Swedish and one Swedish/Buff cross hen who get along wonderfully. In fact, the Swedish/Buff cross assumed mothering/protecting the calls when I first put them together and the calls were still feathering in. [IMG] Sorry, I can't tell you about the more exotic ducks since I have no experience w/them.

Bump is just a way to move the posting up to the front of the list - so it will get more viewings or more responses.

My little ducks have always done fine with the big ones. I have a bantam pair (supposed to be Call, but they look more like BEI crosses) that currently hang out with my Runners. The only problem I've ever had with 'mixed ducks' is with my Magpie drakes being tooo hard on my Runner females in the mating season (a good portion of the year it seems). I currently have only one Magpie drake and I've had to separate him with his own mate who seems to do just fine with him. I actually had a little Silky drake and a BEI drake in my 'drake' pen with ducks MUCH larger than the two of them and they proudly 'ran with the big dogs'. :)

I have all my different kinds of ducks together. Muscovy, little runner mutts ( that are really little), jumbo pekins, appleyards, roeuns, swedish.. etc etc.. Mine free range on the farm all day and then are housed together at night. All get along just fine. ( oh and I dont know a thing about the more exotic ducks.. sorry)
