    Hi everyone,

I have been pondering what type of pheasant to get this year beside the ringnecks that I already got. I had Goldens and Silvers in the past but as of a grizzly slaughtering everything I had couple years ago I have never gotten new ornamentals.

This year i want to change that and the Kalij are on that list of possible species, specifically the Nepal Kalij and the White crested Kalij. From what I read both are pretty much like the Silver in behaviour and needs, correct?
How spooky/nervous are they in comparison, I have read both - pretty bold and in your face- or -constantly hiding and skittish-.... i know that depends more of the individual birds personalities but what is the norm for either species?????
I want to do as much research as possible before considering to say yes to a pair. So anyone with first hand experience with these please chime in with info that may be useful to know. Not as much info on the web on general searches as I would like, basically the same paragraph over and over...

Pictures would be great too! [IMG]

    Hi Anna,
I had the white crested, nepal, horsefileds and crawfords. All very beaitiful birds, but all the same, skiddish and flighty.I would reccommend an oversize cage with lots of cover. If they have more places to hide when your around I think they would calm down. The only problem would be they would always be hiding. All 4 hens that I had would set and hatch their own eggs. The crawfords male was the worst one of all of them.He would greet me at the door everyday and when I opened the door he was right on me.Do you have any pheasant books?Delacour has a good informational book, while Howman has a great pictural book with a litte bit of info.
Also go to www.gbwf.org for lots of info on all species.

Thanks tony, gbwf.org is where i got my only kalij info, every other place just seems to have copied and pasted their info.....

Got no pheasant books of any kind, at least not for keeping in captivity. Used to have on ein German but I think that got lost in the move when we came over.
