I live in Az and was wondering how other people in hot clomates keep the birds and water cool?
The best I have found was to give them "wading pools" and cold water bottles.
I work ,so cannot swap them out during the day.The misters seem to be hit and miss.
Thanks

I am in Florida this is my answer to keeping the drinking water cool. The porcelain being in the shade and being refilled constantly keeps it cool.

I put plastic jugs of water in the freezer (don't forget to leave room for expansion) and then drop one in their water bucket like a giant ice cube. The bucket is in the shade which also helps. The bottles are used over and over. Cost = $0.

ETA, forgot to say I water them with a five-gallon bucket that has nipples in the bottom.

Hello from a fellow Arizonan!

A lot of us here in AZ use misters when it gets very hot (I use them when it gets 110+) and frozen water bottles. Moist soil for them to cool themselves off on really helps. Of course, shade and plenty of ventilation are the most important things you can provide. I also use a five gallon bucket with nipple waterers in the bottom and covered with Reflectix radiant barrier insulation. I can drop a frozen gallon of water into it and keep it cool all day long even in the worst of our heat. You can look on "my coop" page for other ideas to keep birds cool.

If you haven't already found us yet, be sure to drop in on the BYC AZ thread.
