I'm wanting to get some chickens, should I buy from someone local or have people had good luck with shipping from hatcheries. I'm wanting white eggs and meat chickens, should I get one breed for both purposes or one for eggs and another for meat? I live in north Texas (Whitesboro/Sadler).

Greetings from Kansas and

! Pleased you joined us! I have always had good luck with hatcheries - I've had birds shipping in from Iowa and Missouri - geographically close so that helps. Might want to check out Ideal Poultry - a Texas outfit since you live in Texas. In fact, here is the link to some hatcheries and breeders:

And here might be another resource:

Good luck and enjoy your chickens!

I love tractor supply. in the spring they get new chicks in and its just a great deal. you can pick out the little chicks that you like the best. only problem, our TSC will only sell 6 at a time. we are getting 2 new white leghorns, white eggs, this year. I will just hang around the chicks until someone else comes along that doesn't want 6 and we can split an order. we did the same last year.
Welcome to the BYC and happy chicky day.
