Ladder roost or pole roost for my dream coop?

In envisioning my shed style coop that I hope to get once I win an episode on Extreme Coop Makeover (they do have that, right?), I'm wondering if I should put in a ladder roost, or a 3 or 4 foot high pole roost around say 2 sides of the interior. The thing with a ladder roost is that there are different levels and I wonder if they'd peck over that. If everyone has the same opportunity to be on one 3 or 4 foot high pole roost, then maybe there wouldn't be any fighting over who gets to roost where.

Any thoughts on that?

Ha, great question! Just in time for me to find out too, as I am wondering the same thing!!

I have both kinds in my coop...some of the chickens prefer one, some prefer the other. I am converting over to ladder roosts exclusively though, because they save more space. The chickens do tend to stay on the top two rungs of the ladder roost.
