Wasn’t sure which category this post belongs to, but I figured breed experts might be able to help. Does my lavender Orpington look frizzled? Is that even possible? All my other chicks of the same age have flat laying feathers, but this gal’s turn straight upwards. First lavender Orpington so I’m not sure if this is normal feathering or if I have a special case on my hands. 🤗

What a surprise! 😁 Love it!
Can any breed be frizzled? I’ve only ever seen frizzle Cochins/silkies. Not sure how the genetic side of that works!

It looks just shredded to me. That's associated with the lavender gene. Any breed or variety can be frizzled but Bantam Cochins, Polish, and Silkies are the most common ones seen on the forum :)
Interesting! I haven’t heard the term shredded before. Always learning something new about chickens!

I guess only time will tell what she ends up looking like!

Hi - Do you mind showing current state of your orpington? I have never seen this before and I think the Lavender I have is starting this way (3.5 weeks). Thank you! (I know this is an older post, but am hoping the OP is still monitoring) :)

That's shredding
I had never heard of shredding until this chick - only frizzle/ frazzle. Are there health or special concerns with this - or will she live a normal life? She is not part of a breeding program, just egg production.

Thanks for any insight you may be able to share. I’ll check the web hive as well.
