    Question about Lavender Orpingtons....

Is it a resessive or dominate gene? Is it possible to get one from trying to breed blues?

Reason is: I have three chicks I bought as blue orpingtons...one is super light (lavender maybe) a blue and a very dark, almost black.

Maybe ppl helping this thread can help me too?

    Thanks!!

blue does not breed true - you get blues, blacks and splashes. your light bird is probably a splash.

Quote:So, my chicks are about 3 weeks old...maybe 3.5. Does the splash show up in their first feathers? I'd be stoked if I got a blue, black AND splash

I'll have to email the seller, he wasn't too helpful in the photo department, I know. I was hoping that y'all might be able to guess going on comb size/color too. I'll email him right now though.

I really, really want to bring this little one home, it's gotta be a pullet though. I don't have any more room for roos.
