We live in a township where we cannot have chickens. But are allowed to have as many dogs as we want. Its very frustrating. Ive read the MRTFA, however, not having the money to take "the township on" we havent jumped. How do we approah this? Be an "outlaw" and hope it works out? Or, start talking to the township and make them aware that this is my intention? Thanks for you time! Ann

Welcome to BYC!

I really do understand your plight. I have never understood why it is ok for dogs to endlessly bark 365 days of the year, every hour of the day, the planes, the trains, the motorcycles, car horns, the stamping plants, the semi's, ect...are all allowed to completely destroy your peace of mind, and they don't allow a couple of quiet hens!!

You might want to check out this section of BYC. Our Local Chicken Laws and How To Change Them. Maybe you can glean some information here that will help you get these laws changed....

You might also connect with other members in your state thread in hopes of gaining some knowledge on how they may have changed their laws..

I wish you all the best that you can get these people to change the laws and you can get some birds!

Good luck with your poultry raising adventures, and I hope you find everything you need to know. Don't forget to take a look at BYC's very useful learning center (If you haven't already)! The learning center as well as the forum should answer your questions! There is always something new to learn! Glad to have you here! See you around with the flock.
Sorry, I'm not sure on the law ordinance.
