My gals are 23 week RIRs. Only 2 of the 4 are laying right now. Rose was our first to start. She wouldn't lay in the nesting box, presumably because my husband had it up too high. She kept laying in the corner of the coop underneath the poop board. So we moved the nesting box there. She's been laying there ever since.
Now we have another one laying. The first time she laid an egg it was off of the roosting bar. That did not go so well. Now, she will only lay on the poop board. She cleans off the area to the best of her chicken abilities and then does her thing. I appreciate her attempts at cleaning, but this just cannot be an every day thing. How can I get her to lay in the nesting box? I wanted to try to move her, but she gave me the stank eye and I would rather not be pecked at.
Any ideas or does it just take time for them to figure out where to go?
