Laying eggs out of nests.

My hens are laying their eggs out of the nests. I just put the nest boxes up higher and I think they're confused. I need the nests up higher for space. Any advise?

If you haven't already, you may want to place a golf ball or plastic egg inside a couple of the nesting boxes so they understand that's where you want them to lay.

Golf balls worked great for mine. Mine will lay only in the nest box that has the golf balls. I've moved them to different boxes and they follow the balls. The balls cured them from pecking the egg too. I guess they didn't get any results by pecking the balls so gave up.
