Hi,

I have a Black Australorp that has recently been going to the roost in daytime and laying from there. Most of the times the eggs end up breaking and/or getting eaten by the other hens. She was laying in the nest box until just a few weeks ago. I have chased her out when I catch her, but she goes right back up there. Moving her down to the nest box didn't fix the issue. Any other suggestions?

I see this issue has been raised before, but none of the previous suggestions worked for my hen.

Would help to know....

your flock size(numbers, ages, genders),
your coop(size in feet by feet with pics),
and what and how exactly you are feeding,

might offer clues to if there is a solvable problem.

That's very interesting. I'm still new with chickens, but I'm coming to the conclusion that nothing they do will ever surprise me anymore. They are so hilarious at times. My wife jokes and says that they don't have a very big brain, so they are apt to act funny. My girls definitely poop on the roost. I have to clean it up all the time. LOL.... My hens only layed an egg outside of the nesting box one time. Otherwise all the eggs have always been in the box(es).
