A friend is having this problem and we can't figure it out.

They were laying excellent. 8 hens and was 6-8 eggs a day.
All hens are a 1 1/2 yrs old or less.
    Layer feed available 24-7
    oyster shell available 24-7
    No evidence of egg eating
Hasn't seen any egg eating predators.
A couple were molting but no eggs from the others.
The others do the squat when you walk up to them.
Hasn't found any hidden eggs outside the nests.

At first we just thought they were taking a break. Then maybe something eating them so he kept an eye out and would go out several times a day to check. Nothing. Then maybe because it's getting colder. Less light too. But he is going on two months with zero eggs.

    Any ideas?

At this age, the others may be molting too. Sometimes a soft molt isn't noticeable unless you look closely at them. I'd increase the protein for the next month-game bird feed is an excellent choice. Add some vitamins in their water. Also, have they been checked for lice/mites? Have they been dewormed?

Yeah I told him to increase their protein in their feed.
He went another month then they started laying again.
I suspected it may have been their diet or as you said a light molt. Usually when they molt they won't squat down though. It must have been their diet. They do have 3 kids that enjoy feeding them so my best guess is the kids would feed them treats and in turn the hens didn't eat enough of their layer feed. Who needs a square meal when you can eat ice cream and cake all day. lol

HAHAHA Ain't THAT the truth? I have one who just started back laying. She finished moulting 2 months ago, squatted for me the whole time and just started laying again last week!
