Right now we have 2 hen who have started laying. Been laying about a week we have gotten a total of 5-6 eggs. They won't lay in the nest boxes we provided, they are laying on the ground. I marked and moved the egg into the box yesterday and it disappeared. Went back out today and there was another egg on the ground. We have 2 types of boxes ones with tops and ones without and they won't lay in either one is there something I need to do?
  2. Ihave tried to get mine to-lay in the nests, but they prefer the ground. I use new hay, plastic eggs in the nests, they just push the plastic out into the ground and still lay on the ground, so since the hay is clean I just let them lay wherever they want.[IMG] marrie

Why did the egg you moved disappear? Has something eaten it? Perhaps there is something in the nest box that the birds do not like.
