Laying pellets for chicks?

Discussion in 'Feeding & Watering Your Flock' started by CochinBrahmaLover, Sep 14, 2012.

  1. Hi, I just hatched my first chick and have a Q.

So, we don't have chick feed, but I have laying pellets, can I just ground these up? Or do I need medicated feed? If so I can run to the store real quick, we're heading on a camping trip today so fast answers might be better :p

    Thanks !

I believe laying pellets have a bit too much calcium in then for chicks. You don't need medicated feed, but you should get some chick mash or grower crumbles.

  3. OK thanks.
I'll see if my sister can run to the store & get some while I'm gone.
