What is wrong with my two hens that are laying nasty eggs? They have no separate yolk, are brownish inside (like a rotten egg), smell nasty, and do not fill the whole egg shell (much of it is hollow). I separated the two from the flock and was waiting to see if what ever ailed them would run it's course, but the yuck eggs continue.

I looked this up, the person I read had a few suggestions:

1. could your hens be eating any oak shavings? They can turn eggs brown?
2. are they getting enough calcium, say in oyster shell, if not, the eggs could be spoiling quickly. Offer this daily in a separate container
3. maybe over feeding grit...messing up the metabolism.

Do they free range, what are you feeding them? Do they get greens regularly?
