Protein and calcium are major components of eggs...we keep oyster shell in the run all the time so they can help themselves as they need it. I give them some sort of protein pretty much every day...cheese, yogurt, cooked legumes, meat. They gobble that down like crazy!

I prefer that 80%+ of their basic diet come from a high quality, Layer feed formula. Supplementation is fine and good, but there is no substitute for high quality Layer feed, fresh water and a healthy life. They will lay as well as they can. They are wonderful creatures, but are not egg vending machines. Somebody said that here a long time ago. LOL

I do too...they really love it on a cold morning. I throw some yogurt in with mine to both bring down the temp and to supplement the protein.
