leg ties

a friend of mine who has chickens ordered straight run chicks and he ended up with about 7 extra roosters so he attached a leg loop to them and gave them about 20 feet of rope to roam about i was wondering if this is considered cruel because i would love to give my hens a break from my hormonal roo. and what would you use as a loop for the most comfort for the roos?

I would just make him a little time out area, just fence it with whatever. When hes bad he goes in. Putting anything on a rope is generally a bad idea. Not only can they hurt themselves, they can hurt the other birds if it gets wrapped up. Like dogs I think it will only make your bird more aggressive... Not to mention if hes tied up and something is attacking your hens hes useless and if something is attacking him hes a dead duck well dead chicken

Elephants, horses and cows are some of the few animals I believe in tying up.
