My local animal shelter called me needing a home for this chicken. It is hard to tell if it is a male or female. She came in yesterday and doesn't make much noise, but hasn't laid an egg either. I have eleven hens and if this chicken is a hen, be happy to add her to our flock. Is this a rooster or hen? [IMG]

Best way to find out is to post the photos at "what breed or gender is this." I am not sure of the breed because there are some small colored areas and it may not be a white leghorn. Leghorns usually have heavy combs that flop over to the side. The bird may be too young for that.

Without an accurate age, and very crisp photos, it's difficult to tell. Could be a point of lay pullet or a cockerel under 12 weeks.
