Hi, i have a question for you guys. I have almost 2 month old leghorns and some have big combs and some barley sticking out of there heads. I ordered them from tsc. I hope they are all leghorns because i have 30. Have you guys ran across this before? Thanks

Is it possible you have hens and roos?

I have three white leghorns that were hatched the last week of march. At least, I was told they were leghorns. Two are roos and one is a hen. Very obvious difference between the two.

No, they are pullets. I would post a pic but no camera. Thanks

I think you have roo's AND pullets. My leghorns are 8 weeks old, and you can really tell the difference between the girls and the boys. My boy has a large, red comb, and my girls have little bitty combs that are barely there. I too got mine from TSC, they were supposed to be pullets, but the chics get mixed up really easy at TSC

I have 18 Leghorns I raised this spring from MM. Including the comb that came in quickly on the roos, the most noticible thing was the tail feathers. The roos all stook up from the very beginninng and all the hens stayed laying down. I think I remember picking the 3 roos out by their combs, but the tail feathers were the big give away.

I think you have males and females together as well. Especially given that you got them from TSC because I've never seen them offer sexed chicks in any of their stores that I've been in.

Ok guys thanks for the replys. I ordered them pullets only! I ordered 50 chicks. All PULLETS! I know one thing, they will replace them if 10 of them are roos. 30 leghorns 3 barred, 3 gold, 3 silver, 3 buff, and a couple odds and ends. There combs are as big as there head. haha. I have 2 roos and thats plenty for what i want. Thanks again and we will see. Im going to go next time to rural king. They had every breed i was looking for. No ordering and alot cheaper. live an learn i guess.

I don't want to hijack your thread here but I do have a question...I wanna know what people love about the leghorns? Is there something particularly great about them? Seriously, not being a jerk here at all...its just that I have a tiny flock (5 chickens) and received an "extra" chicken from the hatchery that turned out to be a leghorn. She is a maniac & I'm virtually unable to do anything with her, despite working with my chickens everyday. I've read that their flighty behavior is typical to her breed so why would someone want 30 of them?? My chicken is crazy!! Someone give me some pros on the leghorns, please!!

I have two leghorns that I also got from TSC. One is definately a pullet and one is definately a roo. They are 10 weeks old this week and the roo (Chip) has a large red comb and very few tail feathers and they are long and pointy whereas my pullet has straight definately leghorn hen tail feathers and hardly a comb or wattles at all. I do agree that tail feathers along with the comb tell all.

lets see if I did that right
