I have my 21 chicks out in an unheated shop and tonight is supposed to get down to 34 degrees. I have had the same lightbulb on for 2 weeks and I'm afraid it will go out and all the chicks will freeze. How long do the bulbs usually last?

Depends on the brand. I've bought some of those cheap ones and they burn out quick. I learned my lesson when I had two burn out on the same batch of eggs I was incubating. Now I buy better ones and they seem to last forever.

They say incandescent bulbs last about 1,000 to 2,000 hours

I had one that lasted over 4 months and was on 24/7 during that time. I think it was the freezing weather that got to it, because my daylight bulb that was a few days old blew out the same day.
