This morning i went into the hen house to give feed and fresh water , found one of my young ladies ( about 5 months old) roosting back , pale , floppy comb no interest in the feed or the water . Removed her right away - all other birds happy - showing no signs of illness. Brought her into the house , poop is healthy and solid (she took one while in the crate) but she just sits there , cuddled up- eyes closed . tried giving her feed and water - no interest still .

what do you think could be going on ?
Is it too late to try to save her ?

    any help would be great

All Chickens carry disease.....At times of stress the symptoms pop up and they can no longer fight off the disease they carry.....Temperature change causes birds stress........Healthy Birds do not get sick........Keeping Birds on a Balanced diet with really zero fillers, meaning scraps/snacks/treats keeps Chickens healthy.......

Bring her inside and warm her up.......Give her water and regular feed......

    Best of luck.....

    Cheers!

well she got up and at 'em and started eating like it was going out of style , drinking as well. Comb color not improved but she acts a bit more with it . BUT - she had a second poop after eating and drinking and it was white and watery with one firm black stool . not had this sort of poop in my hen house . ive looked at many poop varieties none seem to match exactly.

    any thoughts ?

Poop is poop......I never care about my Chickens poop.....What goes in must come out.......If watery, she drank lots of water....Poop can be lots of colours with a healthy flock......

    Cheers!

Glad she is eating and drinking.Pay attention to her poop that is usually the first sign of diseases.

Not to contradict the last reply....Do not want to be rude......Poop is poop......A Chicken will physically show symptoms....That is a cause for concern...It means the Bird has been sick for awhile and finally can not hide the symptoms...Unless the Bird is Sick, the poop is not an issue.........In many cases Birds show symptoms only after the illness has gone to far....

    Nutrition keeps Birds healthy......

    Cheers!

The poop can tell us many things,Change in Diet which occurred in this hen she is drinking more water than she usually did meaning something is making her do this.I always check there poop while they may exhibit behaviors leading to the disease it may be hard to know whats off, many disease such as Worms,Cocci shows up in the poop.

Mature healthy Birds do not suffer from worms, coccoid or other issues that are so common......Proper management and Nutrition keep Birds healthy....Yes....If they drink to much water the poop is watery...To much fillers, poop is runny and yellow/green.....Poop is not a great indicator of health....Free range birds poop all kinds of poop.....

    Anyways.....I am trying to help......

    Cheers!
