We brought home 4 chicks from a local hatchery almost 4 weeks ago. I know what they are SUPPOSED to be, but I'm beginning to think that they may not be exactly what I was told they were, at least not entirely! So I'm going to start with Luna. I have 6 photos from the time we brought Luna home. Tell me what you think Luna is in terms of breed and sex (if possible).

This is day one for us, a few days from hatching.

So, I'm very interested to hear what all of the chicken experts (of which I'm definitely not) have to say.

Well it's definitely blue or lavender. You might have to wait and see. Pink feet makes me think Orpington, or blue andalusian, but just guesses at this point.

Ohh, great guess. Luna is supposed to be an Orpington. A Splash Orpington to be exadt. But time will tell i suppose.

    Any guess as to sex?

By the amount of feathering, and currently no pink in the comb I would guess pullet. You should know for sure in the next few weeks, most can be accurately sexed by 5-8 weeks. It should be a good looking chicken, but I'm biased, I like Orpingtons.

Now here is chick number 2, Periwinkle. Same as above, 6 photos from the last 4 weeks. And Periwinkle was also newly hatched.

I would guess a blue Orpington on number 2. As far as sexing I would wait a few weeks to be able to tell more, but since it's 50/50 I will guess rooster. Are they straight run or sexed chicks.

I'm thinking ameraucana on #2. At least it looks like a pea comb to me.

Yes, they were all straight runs. Although the breeder i bought them from claims to be good at telling pullet from roo in the first day or two. Supposedly, the 4 chicks were hatched the night before i bight them.

I'm thinking roo as well on this one, only because this is the only one who's comb has always been very pink.
