I have a plastic water fountain in my brooder for my 3 week old chicks they liked to splash and make a mess- I put a dish underneath that is wider than the fountain not the brooder is dry.

I have a bowl of dirt from the yard, they love to play in it. And I have small cardboard boxes for them to jump on, they seem to enjoy them.

I saved a candy box- the chicks like to crawl inside and scratch the feed stays in box. when they get older I put an old drawer out with feed- the hens scratch and food stays in box- get a real quality drawer- no press board- and interlocking corners- not stapled.
