Letting a hen hatch in winter yay or nay?

Can I put the chick back and then get the stuff tomorrow? My closest feed store is 30 mins away.

I'd try to put the chick back asap....hopefully you can keep a close eye at first.

Chick was happily excepted back. I pulled a fast one by getting all the chicks out from under her then just helping all of them back under her with the injured one mixed in. She just snuggled them back under her like nothing was going on.

By any chance do you understand chicken genetics? I know two Giants make a giant but I had 4 Easter Egger eggs and 1 ISA brown. All of the chicks except 1 look like Jersey Giant chick. One ended up gray. I was hoping to get some cool colored ones with the EE eggs. Maybe when they feather out? Trying to do research but all it says is 50% EE and 50% JG. :/

Black quite often is a dominant color. Most of my mixed chicks end up the color of the rooster. Did you notice any muffs on their cheeks. A lot of times colors don't start to show until the 2nd generation crosses. All just my own uneducated observations.

Can't say I paid close enough attention to remember any muffs. I'll have to check in the morning. Two of my EE don't have beards or muffs. If they so does that mean their color may be different?

I was thinking late last night that I should have suggested that technique.
You never know just what will happen with live animals, kinda gotta play it by eye and ear, use your intuition and some common sense.

Two of them do have muffs 4 of the eggs were Easter Eggers but like I said 2 of my girls don't have beards and muffs. So not too bad. I love ther beards!
